William Kirby has submitted the following:-

Ralph Garthwaite Hindmarch was born in 1884 at Chester-le-Street the son of Robert and Dorothy Jane Hindmarch. He was also the grandson son of Ralph and Ann Garthwaite. In 1891 he was living with his grandparents at Old Post Office Lane, Chester-le-Street.

Ralph enlisted in June 1905 and joined th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and was sischarged due to sickness in April 1915. He was awarded the Silver War badge.

Ralph died 3rd November 1918 aged 36 years and was buried in Ropery Lane Cemetery.

His records sometimes used Hindmarsh as his surname.

Ralph Garthwaite Hindmarch is remembered at Chester-le-Street on C105.40
