On the Tyne Cot Memorial is the name of 23913 Lance Corporal Henry Neesam serving with the Machine Gun Corps (Infantry) 9th Battalion who died 14/10/1918.

Derek Johnstone has provided the following:

Henry Neesam was born at Seaton Burn, Northumberland in 1894 to parents William Thomas Neesam from Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham and Ann Neesam (nee Bourne) from Felling in the same county.

Henry is shown to be a miner in the 1911 Census when he was 19. His family at this time lived at Windy Nook, Gateshead. Siblings in the household include John 21, Robert 14, James 11, William 8, and Harold aged 6.

Military records show Henry enlisted at Felling on Tyne and his Pension Index Card confirms his parents as Ann and William Neesam. James was originally with the Durham Light Infantry with the service number 1457. On his death his effects went to his father William indicating Henry did not marry.

His brother Thomas Neesam, serving with the Tyneside Scottish, died in 1916.
