In Auchonvillers Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 82948 Sapper Luke Potts serving with Royal Engineers who died 31/07/1916.

Brenda Mcmahon has submitted the following:-

Luke Potts was born at Kibblesworth in 1888. He was the son of William and Dorothy Ann (nee Davison Woodhouse). His father later married after the death of his first wife, Elizabeth Ann (Eliza nee Dixon formerly Eltringham). William Potts had six children with his first wife Dorothy and four children with Eliza. Eliza was the mother of at least 5 Eltringham children.

The 1911 census shows 10 family members living in 3 rooms at Blue Row Kibblesworth. Luke is a coal miner hewer.

Luke enlisted into the army at Newcastle. He originally served as 23617 Durham Light Infantry (174th Tunnelling Company). He went to France 16 March 1915.

He was killed in action on the Somme 31 July 1916 and buried alongside 528 other Commonwealth soldier at Auchonvillers Military Cemetery.

His father added the words to his gravestone:-Safe in the arms of Jesus
Ever remembered by his father
Step-mother and brothers and sisters.
