Young, A., Gnr., 1917
In Boulgogne Eastern Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 48294 Gunner Archibald Young serving with 61st Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery who died 17/09/1917.

Brenda Mcmahon has submitted the following ;-

Archie was born in 1892 at Kibblesworth. He was the eldest son of James and Susannah. In 1911 the family were living at 8 Prospect Terrace Kibblesworth. Like his father and brother, John, Archie worked in the pit. His father was the colliery pumping furnaceman.

He enlisted into the army 29 July 1915 and only a few months later he married his sweetheart, Margaret Lightford. They married 20 October 1915 at the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel.

His record shows he was 5 foot 8 inches tall and a Wesleyan Methodist by religion.

He was sent to France 9 March 1916. In July 1917, he was sent to a Signals School then returned to his unit 31 August 1917.

Only a few weeks later he died of wounds at 13th General Hospital Boulogne on 17th September 1917 aged 25 years.

His widow was later sent his personal possessions which included pipe, book, metal pen case, purse, metal brooch (broken) cards, chain & a ring. Margaret was eventually allocated a weekly pension of 13s 9d.

Archibald Young is remembered at Kibblesworth on K23.01 and K23.02
