In Gateshead (Saltwell) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 14416339 Lance Corporal Philip Henry Peel serving with the 250 Field Company Royal Engineers who died 15/08/1944.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory of
Our dearly beloved son
L/Cpl. Philip Henry Peel
accidentally killed while serving
in the Royal Engineers
15th August 1944 aged 23 years.
Also Alice Maud Peel
Dear mother of the above
Died 30th Jan. 1981 aged 64 years.
Also Luke Stella Peel, father of the above
Died 17th April 1969 aged 71 years.

He is remembered in Gateshead on G39.011 and on G39.015
