1. “The war record of the Gateshead Scouts’ Association is as follows:- Number of Scouts serving in Navy and Army, 160; killed, 9; wounded and gassed, 20; recommended for V.C., 1; awarded D.S.O., 1; awarded M.C., 2; awarded M.M., 2; mentioned in despatches, 1. These figures exclude ex-Scouts.
Although the Gateshead Association had no Sea Scouts, they readily fell in with the scheme put forward by the Headquarters, London, and during the war over 150 Scouts from the Association were on coastguard duty on the North Northumberland Coast and other places.”
