In Gateshead (Saltwell) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 1121052 Aircraftman 2nd Class Ernest Clark, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 28/11/1941.

The headstone reads:-

Loving Memory of
Mabel
the beloved wife of
Andrew Clark
died March 16th 1937
aged 57 years.
Also
Ernest, W/Op. R.A.F.
killed in flying operations
November 28th 1941
aged 33 years.
Also the above
Andrew Clark
died October 27th 1948
aged 70 years.

Ernest Clark is remembered at Gateshead on G39.67
