Boggon, J.W., Pte., 1917
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 31544 Private John William Boggan, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 07/02/1917.

John Taylor and Ann Norman have submitted the following:

John was born in St. Helens, Lancashire in about 1898. In the 1901 census he was living in Turnbull Terrace, Springwell, with his father John, a colliery worker, his mother, Harriet May, and his older and younger sisters, Sophia and Hilda Isabel. His father was born in Usworth so he had returned home with his family, although his mother was born in Selby, Yorkshire. In 1911 the family had moved to 12 Mosside, Wrekenton.

John served as a Private in 9th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, regimental number 31544. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 7th February 1917.

John Boggon is remembered in Eighton Banks on E50.01 and E50.02 and in Gateshead on G39.011 G39.064 G39.118 and G39.119
