"My grandfather’s name is on this memorial, Joseph Peacock, he was born and lived in Dunston. He joined the 6th Territorial Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers pre war. He went with the 6th Battalion to Belgium in April 1915 and within the week he was severely injured with gunshot wounds to his legs. He was invalided out of the Army and went to work for Armstrong’s on the Tyne. He fought at St Julien and considered his wounds lucky and even called his home in Stockton ‘St Julien’!"
