Menin Gate Memorial

On the Ypres (Menin Gate) memorial is the name of 30301 Private George Hildreth Waugh, serving with the 12th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, who died 07/06/1917.

Dorothy Hall has submitted the following:-

George Hildreth Waugh was born in 1892 the son of James Ord Waugh and his wife Mary at Tow Law.

George followed his father and became a joiner.

He enlisted at Bishop Auckland 27th November 1915. He was 23 years and 8 months old and was 5 foot 7½ inches tall. His religion was Presbyterian.

George went to France 6th July 1916 with the D.L.I. and was in hospital for a month in October 1916 with a gun shot wound to his left forearm.

He was reported missing 7th June 1917 and was presumed to have been killed on that day

George Waugh is remembered at Tow Law on T57.01, T57.04, T57.05 and T57.06
