Memorial Description

Plaque, shield shaped, with elaborate top which has a cascade of leaves falling downwards. The screws holding the plaque to the wall are highlighted by stars. The names are listed in a single column. The dedication is in Roman capitals, the names and quotation are in sans serif capitals, all in black with some red initials.

Notes

1. The memorial was given to the Tow Law Local History Society for safe keeping. It was kept in the custody of Mr Ronnie Storey of the Local History Group, while a new home was found.

2. The Auckland and County Chronicle 23/11/1920 records a brass plaque in the church whose inscription reads:
“For Fatherland Peace. In honoured memory of the men of Tow Law Wesleyan Church who, always of good cheer in the midst of evil, held to the good, in the hell of modern warfare remained gentle, tender and human. (9 names). If I should die, think only this of me, That there’s some corner of a foreign field that is for ever England.”
