Rushford, O., Pte., M.M., 1918
On Soissons Memorial is the name of 250440 Private Oliver Rushford M.M., serving with the 1st/6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 30/05/1918.

Ron Shotton has submitted the following:-

Oliver was the son of John William and Annie Young Rushford and was born in 1894 at Escomb. In 1911 he was at Wind Mill Bishop Auckland, Oliver like his father was a butcher.

Oliver enlisted at Bishop Auckland and was given Service number 3803 this was later changed to 250440. He went to France and was killed in action 30/05/1918.

Oliver's Military Medal was announced in December 1916 in the Newcastle Journal - for bravery in the field.

Oliver Rushford is remembered at High Etherley on H127.01 and H127.02 and at Evenwood E69.01

Soldiers Died and the D.L.I. Book of Remembrance give Oliver's death as 30/05/1918 CWGC states 30/06/1918 whilst the Soldiers Effects Register gives 27/05/1918.
