Nicholson, E., Sgt., 1944
In Clichy Northern Churchyard, on the northern outskirts of Paris, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1057527 Sergeant Esmond Nicholson, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 18/12/1944.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

Sgt. Nicholson was killed when Handley Page Halifax III LV818 ZA-F of 10 Squadron was lost on a mission to Duisburg. The Halifax collided with another Halifax, NP699 of 432 (R.C.A.F.) Squadron, near the French village of Rocroi, in the Ardennes region. Of the fifteen crew members on board the two Halifaxes, only the pilot of NP699 survived, to become a P.o.W.

The bodies of the crew were buried in a variety of locations, it is thought due to their remains being recovered by an American Graves Investigation Unit.
