Sunderland Round Table has lost the first of its members on active service. He was Sergt. Pilot Reginald Howard (30), formerly of Kingarth Avenue, Seaburn whose death on August 28th – second anniversary of his wedding to a Middlesbrough nurse – has been reported to his wife, now living in Bishop Auckland.

Mr. Howard was for some time manager of the Sunderland branch of L. Hudson Verity, opticians, and was an active member of Sunderland Round Table until he volunteered for flying duties in the R.A.F. about 16 months ago. He had just completed his training as a pilot."

Reginald Howard is remembered in Bishop Auckland on B140.04 and B140.12 and in a RAF Roll of Honour page 50
