In Salerno War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1531619 Sergeant Henry Wilkinson Hewitt, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 30/12/1943.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

Sgt Hewitt was killed when Vickers Wellington XIII JA363 of 221 Squadron was lost on a convoy escort mission from R.A.F. Luqa, Malta. The Wellington was lost without trace after leaving Luqa at 22.45 hours.

He is remembered in Bishop Auckland on B140.12
