P/O Brown was killed when Avro Lancaster III ED799 WS-G of 9 Squadron was lost without trace on a minelaying mission to the Bay of Biscay, with the loss of all seven crew members.

Also killed in the same incident were: Sgt. H. Jenkins and F/Off. B. Carey
