Brown, W., Rev., 1919
In Aldershot Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Chaplain 4th Class The Rev. William Brown, serving with the Royal Army Chaplains' Department who died 10/03/1919.

The Auckland & County Chronicle 13/03/1919 reports:

“Death of Rev. W. Brown.
It is with regret we report the death of the Rev. William Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brown, of Coundon Gate. The deceased was well known in the Bishop Auckland district, having married the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Underwood, who for many years was schoolmaster at Auckland Park and Close House, and to whom great sympathy is expressed. Mr. Brown had only been ill for four days, death occurring at Aldershot. He had been a chaplain in the Army for three years, and was very popular among the members of the division. He was a powerful preacher, and would have undoubtedly gone very high up in the church for his sterling abilities.”

He is remembered on C117.01
