In Waterhouses Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 4455842 Private Rudolph Splevins, serving with the 8th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry who died 03/10/1940.

Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Splevins. of Waterhouses.

The headstone reads:-

In loving memory of
Rudolph
dearly beloved son of
Thomas and Elizabeth
Splevins
killed on active service
Oct. 3rd 1940
aged 25 years

He died that we might live

A flower block reads:-

In loving
memory of
our dear
brother
from
Harry &
Connie

Rudolph Splevins was killed by a Marauding German Bomber on the 3rd October 1940, in the UK after the bomber spotted some of the 8th Battalion vehicle lights. He was the C/O driver, also in the same attack Major A .B. S. Clarke was wounded.
