In Taukkyan War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 14298059 Rifleman Raymond Short serving with the 1st Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) who died 16/06/1944.

The Durham Chronicle 22/06/1951 carries a Roll of Honour which includes three entries as follows:

Short (Sherburn). Treasured memories of our dear son , Raymond, killed 26th June 1944, Burma. Seven years ago we had to part with one we loved with all our heart. But it's not goodby, just goodnight, and God bless you, son. Will always be remembered. Mam and Dad.
