In Perth Cemetery (China Wall), West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 6/2973 Private Matthew Vickerstaff serving with the 1st/6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 05/01/1916.

In Spennymoor Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:-

In loving memory of
Matthew
the beloved son of Matthew and
Ursula Vickerstaff
who died April 29th 1914
aged 1 month
Also
Matthew
father of the above
who was killed in action in France
on January 6th 1916
aged 36 years
