In St.John's Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Flight Sergeant George Ridley Telford Taylor, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 18/12/1944.

Son of William and Mary Taylor; husband of Harriett Jane Welburn Taylor of Spennymoor.

The headstone reads:-

In loving memory of
Flt. Sgt. George R.T. Taylor R.A.F.
beloved husband of Harriett Taylor
killed in action 18 Dec. 1944
aged 36 years

F.Sgt Taylor was serving with 3 LFS (Lancaster Finishing School). He was a crew member of Lancaster I R5846 A5-H which took off from Feltwell on a training exercise. On returning to base, the aircraft collided with another Lancaster. All members of both crews were killed.
