The Northern Daily Mail (Hartlepool) Thursday 18/12/1941 reported his death:
"Cadet R. Kirkup, of the R.A.F., whose home is at Bishop Auckland, was killed when he fell from an upstairs window at a hotel at Eastbourne last night. Death is believed to have been accidental."
He is remembered in Eldon on E61.01
