Maines, T., A/Smn., 1915
On the Helles Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/3533 Able Seaman Thomas Maines, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 31/10/1915.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Thomas was born on 15th May 1896. He was working as a miner living at 14, Rifle Street, Stanley when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 26th April 1915.

Thomas joined the Howe Battalion on 21st September 1915 and was killed in action, shot in the head and thigh, in Gallipoli on 31st October 1915.

Thomas was the son of William Maines of the Bamlett Hotel, Bedlington.

Thomas Maines is remembered at South Moor on S129.01 and at Stanley in S135.04 page 13
