The Auckland Chronicle 14/12/1919 reports:
“Waskerley
A dance was held on Saturday to welcome home Corpl. Fred Barthrop (sic) after his demobilisation. He was presented with a pocket wallet by Mr. R. Sawer on behalf of the Committee.”
Whilst in Salonica Fred contracted Malaria which recurred at various times in 1919. He was granted a 20% pension in 1919.
In 1939 Fred and his wife Margaret nee McManus were living at Honey Hill, Muggleswick. He worked as a sand washer and filterer at the nearby reservoir. Frederick Bartrope died in 1968.
