They had married, district of Lanchester in 1890 settling at Salters Gate, Wolsingham, where Parkin had found employment as a stone/quarryman and Frederick George was born in 1891.Over the next 10 years they moved into 4 rooms at 5, Maudville, Castleside, and by 1911 Parkin was employed by a contractor as a mason while Frederick George (19) was a labourer at Consett Iron Company.

At the time of his enlistment he was still living at Castleside and presented himself for assessment at Consett, County Durham. The battalion moved to Gallipoli in July 1915, went on to Egypt in January 1916 and then to Mesopotamia (an area between the river Tigris and the Euphrates) in February 1916. July 1918 the brigade was detached from the division and sent to be part of the North Persia Force.

Having risen through the ranks the now Corporal 12215 Frederick George Parkin died September 9th 1918. A concentration document exists in which he is listed as initially having been buried in Kazvin British War Cemetery. The remains of all those buried there were exhumed and brought into Tehran War Cemetery for reburial by an Army Chaplain with all honour and reverence. He is at rest, grave II. G. 11. At the time of his demise in 1918 he was 28 years of age and single.

His parents received his awards of the British War Medal and Victory Medal, a pension and all monies due to him by the Army, sent to them at 5, Maudville, Castleside, County Durham.
