In Consett and Blackhill Old Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of:-

625563 Sergeant
W.M. Batson
Royal Air Force
21st October 1940

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

Sgt. Batson was killed when Westland Lysander R9128 of 225 Squadron crashed near R.A.F. Old Sarum, Wiltshire. The Squadron O.R.B. (Operational Record Book) reports that the Lysander crashed soon after take off, killing both crew members.

William Murly Batson is remembered in Blackhill on B145.01 and at Castleside on C113.01, C113.02 and C113.07
