In Cottesmore (St Nicholas) Churchyard Extension, Rutland, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 524300 Sergeant (Pilot) Oswell Beck, serving with the Royal Air Force, 14 O.T.U. (Operational Training Unit), who died 06/05/1940.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:
Sgt Beck was killed in Handley Page Hampden P1274, which crashed 2 miles from R.A.F. Cottesmore when it overshot the runway after a heavy landing on a night flying exercise. All four crew were killed.
