On Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of C/JX 144799 Able Seaman Leslie Pearson, serving with the Royal Navy who died 17/12/1942.

Leslie Pearson 1919-1942

Son of Sarah Pearson and grandson of Thomas Cowan Pearson and his wife Isabella of 8 Beverley Terrace, Catchgate, Annfield Plain.

He died 17th December 1942 when the ship, HMS Firedrake, was torpedoed by a German submarine and sunk. It was part of the Atlantic Convoy.This was the third time that he had been on a ship that was attacked in this way.

The name of his uncle Samuel Pearson appears below his.

He is remembered at Annfield Plain on A38.01 and on our List of Ships’ crews
