Memorial Description
Incumbents’ Board, listing the “Priests of this Parish since its foundation / in 1859”. It has a pedimented top on which is set a gold cross.
There is a plaque at the foot bearing the war memorial dedication. It is placed between the words “God” and “Heb(rews)” on the bottom frame. Lettering is in lower case sans serif lettering with names in capitals.

2. St. Mary the Virgin Church at Howden-le-Wear was built to serve the Fir Tree Parish and was consecrated October 1869. It's official name was Fir Tree St. Mary and the church closed 27th January 2008. The building has been sold for conversion to residential housing.
