Memorial Description

Plaque of light marble on black marble pattress 29˝ inches high x 39 inches wide. At centre top is the Regimental badge of the Durham Light Infantry carved in half relief with the words “In Loving Memory of” on either side in Old English lettering. All lettering is in Roman capitals for the dedication and sans serif italic capitals for the quotation.

In loving Memory of
Sergt. John James Lambert,
dearly beloved son of
Mary Ann & the late Robert Lambert,
who was killed in action in France whilst serving with
the 6th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry
March 29th 1918, aged 23 years
“He laid down his life for his country”.
