Notes

1. For many years this was in a Gateshead County Council depot. Due to a great deal of newspaper and TV interest, the memorial was identified. In 2007 an appeal was placed in the paper to see whether anybody recognised it. Peter Yorke, a former headmaster, identified it.

2. The church was demolished in 1964 to make way for St.Cuthbert’s Village, which in turn was cleared to make way for the Village Heights housing in Windmill Hill area.

3. The Memorial has been renovated and erected in its new position in the north east corner of the back garden of the Church, and rededicated 10th May 2014

4. There are plans to incorporate a Memorial Garden using the Memorial as a centre piece.

5. Soldiers from 103 (Tyne Electrical Engineers) Field Squadron Royal Engineers apprentices, St Mary's Heritage Group, and NEWMP provided assistance to re-erect this Memorial.
