Memorial Description

Vase. Tall design, 1 foot 2 inches high x 5˝ inches diameter with shallow neck and a design of grape leaves and fruit around the shoulder. The dedication is carried below this, using a mixture of Roman upper, lower and italic script.

Notes

1. The name is also on the family headstone in the churchyard.

2. The dedication was on the same occasion as the dedication of the chancel screen.

3. Capt. Burgess was the only son of Mr H.L. Burgess who in 1919 "closed a long career as headmaster of Burnhope Colliery Council School". See Every Name a Story
