Memorial Description

Teaset comprising Pewter Teapot, Milk Jug and Sugar Bowl. Teapot is 10.5cm high and 22cm from edge of handle to tip of spout. Bowl is 8cm by 14 cm. Jug is 10cm high by 10.5cm wide. The shape is rounded and they all bear an incised leaf pattern.

Notes

1. Weardale Museum Accession numbers 735, 737 and 736. The note associated with the items explains that Herbert Lowery was one of twelve Rookhope men whose names are listed on the South Side of Rookhope War Memorial (see Reference R51.01). He had enlisted at Bishop Auckland, joining the 20th DLI as number 20-847. He was killed on 16th September 1916 at Fleurs during the Battle of the Somme.

2. These memorial items bearing his name were presented to his family and have been passed on down the generations to relatives who have donated them to this Museum.
