1. “A Memorial Service was held in the Synagogue in Aug. 1918 and windows were unveiled to the memory of Private Issy Jackson, Lieut. James Marks and Gunner Bernie Woolf who had been killed in action. The closing months of the war brought further bereavement to members of the Congregation through the deaths on active service of Corp. Maurice Marks, Lieut. Jimmy Marks and L/Cpl. Lenny Marks.” The Jewish Communities of North East England 1755-1980
