Sculptor, Artist or Designer

Ralph Hedley, 52 St.Mary’s Place, Newcastle on Tyne, Ref: 1129

1. There is no memorial for 1939-45, although there were two men from the village who died.

a. The first, home on leave, had gone to arrange to have his banns called, had too much to drink and was killed on his motorcycle on the way home.

b. The second was Billy Bell. See Every Name a Story

2. It has been suggested that the memorial was made probably by William Temple, local joiner and undertaker, whose work "had to be perfect". However, photos exist in the Ralph Hedley collection which infer that this was done by that firm.
