Memorial Description

Plaque, 4 feet 9 inches high x 7 feet 3 inches wide, very plain, with deep border, made of four oblong stones. The lettering is black raised lead letters. The quotation is repeated on each half . The names are listed in four columns.

The 1914-18 plaque has been enlarged to accommodate the names from 1939-45.

Grey marble / sandstone / lead.

2. The hall was demolished and replaced by housing.

3. From an old photograph, it seems that there were two plaques, one for each half of the alphabet, each in an elaborate frame with half-pillars up the sides surmounted by a hemisphere containing the dates below which were two laurel sprays. The photo shows that there was a chain link railing. The two plaques had the names for 1939-45 added and were brought together in the plain frame that appears now.

Diocese of Durham Faculty number 6471, issued 10/02/1987 for the addition of a protective stone frame to the existing memorial on the south exterior wall of the organ chamber, facing the road. To protect existing tablets, no new names to be added
