Unveiled 22nd December 1923 by Lord Joicey. Dedicated by Rev. F.B. Phillips, Vicar of Christ Church, Gateshead, former Vicar of Beamish.
Memorial Description
Cross of Celtic type, 15 feet high on pedestal 9 feet square resting on four steps each 7 inches high. The top of the cross is decorated. The rest is very plain. The dedication is carried on the plinth, the lettering incised using elongated Roman capitals throughout.

Notes
1. Unveiled on a day that was “bitterly cold”.
2. In 1923, the newly elected Chairman of Stanley Urban District Council deplored the fact that Stanley did not yet have a memorial.
