Original Location

The Scout Room which was pulled down in 1964. The plaque disappeared and was found in 1984 in a Council building “under a pile of rubble”.

Present Location

St. John’s Church, Main Street. On the north wall of north aisle.

Unveiled October 1919 in the Scout Room by Rev. F.B. Beavon, vicar of Seaton Carew.

Memorial Description

Plaque of white marble surrounded by grey marble and framed in oak. At centre top is the fleur-de-lys badge of the Boy Scouts.
There is a flower ledge in front, and the plaque has Scout flags of 1st Shildon troop on either side. The names are listed in three columns. The lettering is incised and blackened, using a mixture of Roman, Gothic, sans serif and italic.
