Unveiled 13th July 1919 by Rev. A.J. Perry, M.C., a Vice-President of the Choir.

Memorial Description

Plaque of white marble set in a pink marble surround with moulded frame and squared patterns at the corners. The whole is set on a black pattress. The names are listed in two columns. The lettering is incised and painted black, the words of the dedication being in sans serif capitals, and the title and the names in Roman capitals.

Notes

1. St.John's Wesleyan Methodist Church Hall, where the Gleemen used to practice, was demolished c.1980. The Library now stands on the site of the former church.

2. John Edward Adams joined 4th N.F. at outbreak of war and was reported "missing" after only a few days' service. A year later was "presumed dead"

3. Sydney Bannister, Labour Corps, was killed in France.

4. Joseph Foster went to France in Sept. 1914, serving with N.F. and K.O.Y.L.I.

5. John Joseph Grierson 12/13th N.F. went to France Aug. 1917 and killed Nov. 1917. Worked for Newcastle and Gateshead Water Co.

6. Robert Andrew Hall joined 6th D.L.I.

7. John Robson joined Sept. 1914, went to France in 1915 and was killed after 2½ yrs. active service.
