Notes

1. The invitation to the original ceremony in 1954 states that the Bishop of Newcastle would both unveil and dedicate the memorial. However, the Unveiling Programme says that the Chairman of the Company (no name given) would perform the unveiling.

2. Following the closure of the Barrack Road, Newcastle site, the plaque was resited and rededicated on the evening of Saturday 19th April 2008 at Dunston Brewery, Scottish & Newcastle UK Ltd., Lancaster Road, Dunston, NE11 9JR.
The date was chosen was because the Northumberland Fusiliers All Ranks Club had their St. George’s Day Reunion Dinner at the Lancastrian Suite function rooms next to the brewery.
The function was attended by the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Tyne & Wear, the Mayor of Gateshead and the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, who attended the re-dedication service prior to the function. The service was conducted by the Vicar of the local parish, Rev. Keith Teasdale, who is an ex-army chaplain and attended by members of our staff and also a number of former Officers and representatives from Northumberland Fusiliers, Durham Light Infantry and Royal Artillery who were also present at the function. A Quarter Guard of 68th of Foot were there and a Bugler to sound ‘Last Post’ and ‘Reveille’.
The plaque was located on a column at the gatehouse entrance and could be viewed by the public without the need to enter the gatehouse or the site.

3. On the closure of the brewery at Dunston, the memorial was rehoused in St.Andrew’s Church, Newcastle and was rededicated in the Lady Chapel on November 6th 2011.

4. Before being taken in to St.Andrew’s, the memorial was cleaned and a frame added by an ex-carpenter.
