a. Unveiled 24th April 1920 by Rev. T.J. Whitman of Manchester, a former Minister of the Church, assisted by Rev. R.T. Richards, B.D., Minister of Wycliff Baptist Church, Elswick Road.

Memorial Description

Stained glass window of two lights with two pictures on each, depicting Christ as the Light of the World; The Sower; the Raising of Lazarus, and the Raising of the Widow's Son. The dedication is carried right across the bottom of both lights in Gothic lettering with illuminated capitals.
There is also a brass plaque 94cm high x 300cm wide x 2cm thick. There is a double line border with squares at regular intervals which surround the screw heads. The names are in six columns divided by vertical lines. Above under the heading “In Memoriam” are the names of those who fell; below this, under the heading “Roll of Honour”, are the names of those who served. All lettering is in Roman for the dedication and sans serif capitals for the names.
Another plaque, identical in design, has been added below this, bearing the names from 1939-45.

Notes

1. “In April 1919 the church welcomed home its survivors of the war with a ‘special Thanksgiving Service’ lasting half an hour . . .after which a Weymouth’s New Testament was presented to every man.” This was followed by an entertainment and meal.

2. In 1939-45 Charles Cameron Wallace became a chaplain to the Forces and was killed on active service in Italy.

3. Joseph Cowen Harkus was also a chaplain for six years, to the Royal Air Force.
