Memorial Description

Plaque 21 inches high x 23 inches wide set on a wood pattress six inches wider all round. The plaque is divided into a temple-like design. The central top panel has a gabled top and bears a laurel wreath apparently coloured green which surrounds the words “Roll of Honour”. On either side, each in a cartouche, are the words “Wesleyan Chapel” and “North Seaton”. The main central panel bears the dedication and the names listed in a single column. The quotation is in a self-contained narrow panel along the bottom. Lettering is in Roman upper and lower case for the dedication and quotation, while the names are in sans serif upper case.

Notes

1. There was a proposal to remove these to the newly opened Heritage Centre at Newbiggin by the Sea.

2. There has to be another memorial recording those who served if the newspaper report is correct. See N33.01

3. The men named were members of the church, and not all those from the community who died.

4. For a while these were stored in the Woodhorn Colliery Museum.

5 The Methodist and Wesleyan Methodist Chapels merged in the 1930s and for a while both plaques were in the Methodist Church.
