Memorial Description
Plaque, 38 cm high x 64.5 cm wide. The plaque is very plain. At the top is the King's Own Scottish Borderers' regimental badge raised in half relief. The letters are incised and painted white, using Roman capitals throughout.

Notes
1. The grave in the churchyard was unmarked for many years, but a marker has now been placed over it. (?2000)
2. Piper Laidlaw was awarded the V.C. in 1915 for piping along the trenches and encouraging his regiment to charge.
3. There are photos and other memorabilia in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers Museum at Berwick on Tweed.

Illustrated Chronicle 20/11/1915 has a full page drawing of Piper Laidlaw on the front page; 22/11/1915 has on the back page a full-page photo feature of Piper Laidlaw and family; 01/03/1916 page 8 has a photograph of Piper Laidlaw being presented with a gold watch.
The Journal 13/11/2006 carries an article about Piper Laidlaw, on page 19.
