Additional Notes

1. In the 1914-18 list, Cyril Hoey is reported to have died in the SS "Belgium Prince" ship number 111307. The S.S. "Belgian Prince", a Merchant Vessel of 4765 tons, was hit by a torpedo from an U Boat U 55, commanded by Kapitänleutnant Wilhelm Werner, on the 31st July 1917, 175 miles N by NW from Tory Island. 39 lives were lost and the Master, Harry Hassan made prisoner. She was sunk the next day by scuttling charges. Read the shocking story.

                                           when it enquired if we knew what
                                           had happened to “this brilliant
                                           bard and scholar” from Penyfed.
                                           His fate is still not known.
