a. Unveiled 12th September 1925 by Col. E. Vaux of Barton, near Darlington; dedicated by Rev. D. Perrott.

Memorial Description

Obelisk, 9 feet high, on square base with two pedestals, surrounded by iron railings and a gate. The lettering is carved into the faces of the base using sans serif capitals throughout. The names for 1914-18 are listed in a single column on two sides, and those for 1939-45 on the fourth side.

Notes

1. The village has virtually disappeared leaving the obelisk in a great stretch of landscaped open space. Originally it was hemmed in by streets of pit houses.
