St. Bartholomew’s Church of England Primary School, Front Street, Benton

a. Unveiled February 1924 by Prof. W.M. Thornton, and Dedicated by Vicar, Rev. M. Fletcher.
Plaque 394mm (15½ inches) high x 457mm (18 inches) wide, mounted in a wood frame, total height 508mm (20 inches) x 553mm (21¾ inches) wide. The names are in two columns in Roman capitals.
Above the main panel is a separate smaller panel 6 inches deep, giving the dedication, and above this is a smaller plaque still bearing the name of the school.
Below the main plaque is a wood plaque, apparently a continuation of the backing of the main frame, on which are incised the names of those who died in 1939-45.

1. The school, built in 1871, was demolished in 1973, replaced by the Longbenton Church of England School built alongside.
