Memorial Description

Chancel screen and brass plaque. The screen is of six panels, delicately carved with vine leaves and tracery.
The brass plaque is inserted as the lower inner panel on the left hand side. There is a single line border, used to divide the names from the two great wars. At centre top is a small white enameled cross. The names are listed in a single column, using upper and lower case Roman.

a. Screen made by Rev. R.R. Hedley, Vicar, assisted by parishioners M. Batey, T. Henderson, W. Carr, A.Sleight and W.E. Hedley. Designed by Messrs. Hicks and Charlewood.

Notes

1. The vicar's hobby was woodcarving, and he had started local classes some years before. He also designed and made the altar.

2. The list of those who died contains three sets of two brothers.

3. At the dedication service, an offertory was taken towards the memorial fund. The Vicar stated that he had received £54 and a further £40 was still needed.

4. Concealed almost from view on various parts of the screen are the initials of the men who made it.
