War Memorial Cottages. Row of four single-storey cottages, each bearing an inscribed stone or stones set in the front wall.

Holywell War Memorial Homes, in memory of Holywell men who fell in the Great War 1914-1918.

Brass plate in wall front :
This tablet was unveiled by Major Ralph Edward Bates Mortimer, on his presenting the deed for the land on which these cottages stand to the governors of the Northumberland Aged Miners Homes Association as a gift in memory of his father, Sir Ralph George Elphinston Mortimer, OBE, July 20th 1960.

1. Sir Ralph George Elphinston Mortimer was the grandson of Rev. John Elphinston Elliot and Mrs. Elliot who was bequeathed Holywell and other properties on the death of Miss Sarah Bates, descendant of the Bates family of the 16th century.
