Notes

1. “Of the 20 men whose names are recorded, sixteen went from Hart, two from Elwick, and two from Dalton Piercy, both of which latter townships are in the ecclesiastical parish of Hart”.

2. “Col. Robson, D.S.O. on behalf of the people of Hart, presented 30 medals to the returned sailors, soldiers, W.A.A.Cs and military nurses”.

3. In Heugh Battery is the Parish Magazine for Christ Church, West Hartlepool, St. Peter's Elwick and St Mary Magdalene Hart for September 1919 which reads:- "Hart -We are expecting to hear any day now that the window is finished. The wood-carver Mr Cameron 47 Park Road West Hartlepool has the tablet well in hand. He will be very pleased to show it to anyone who calls. It is a very beautiful piece of work. One very good feature about it is that the names are very clear and can be read several yards away. Mr Cameron would have had the tablet finished some time ago, but had great difficulty in obtaining a piece of oak which he considered good enough for his purpose. At last however he succeeded in getting a very fine piece of wood which will last for centuries."
