Notes

1. Thomas Minks (Private 18/328, Born Medomsley, Enlisted Newcastle, Rowlands Gill, died of wounds) and Leslie Dobson Turner (Private 18/398 Born Heaton Enlisted Newcastle Rowlands Gill) are both recorded on the Hartlepool Bombardment memorial as having served with the Durham Light Infantry and were among the first to be killed by enemy action within the British Isles since commencement of the Great War.

2. Two collieries had “joined hands” (Blaydon Courier) which meant that only one memorial was needed instead of two.
